Lockdown Led to Songs of Love, Loss and Hope
Nashville Singer-Songwriter Donna Frost Soothes Spiritswith Two Albums, The Quarantine Sessions Volume 1 and 2
July 9, 2021 — When the lockdown turned live music venues dark; steady-touring trobadors like singer-songwriter Donna Frost had nowhere to go. Looking inward, she turned the tribulations of COVID into two soothing acoustic folk/blues song collections: The Quarantine Sessions Volume 1 and 2. No stranger to using songs to heal others, Frost often performs at senior centers and fundraisers. These collections draw from personal loss, as well as the universal effect of COVID on all of us as we struggled with new realities, Internet trials, and challenges of all stripes.
“I could’ve gotten bitter…but I chose to get better.”

“I have known and worked with Donna for better than a decade now and she is, without a doubt, the hardest working person in music. These songs are from the heart, all examples of her skillful blend of life’s tales and the emotions that come with them.”
– Michael Teach, Chicago Acoustic Underground Podcast
With the first strum, Donna asserts her folk story-telling prowess and goes on to show her mastery of mood with ballads and upbeat tunes alike. With tunes like “Quarantine Blues” that help us smile; to “Mama’s Prayers” about the power of a parent’s love; to inspiring tracks like “Bitter But Better” the collection is a calming service to the weary, full of heartfelt and hardwon optimism.
Donna, who plays over 200 shows per year across the country, didn’t stay away from audiences for long: she kept fans entertained by offering Facebook Livestream shows nearly every Monday throughout the lockdown, racking up numerous shows, where she tried out new material, including songs on these albums.

This album is dedicated to her memory….Thank you, Donna, for entertaining and educating us all.” – Ron Goad, board member of the Songwriters Association of Washington, D.C.
These two collections show that not only is Frost a prolific writer; she possesses the rare gift of being able to take current events and wrap them up into listenable songs. The tunes have clear, concise messages. As a collection, they weave through a gamut of emotions. Strong and steady, they offer a counterbalance to the upheaval many experienced related to COVID.
The songs are delivered in a soothing style. With minimal production, the songs express an intimate sound with just acoustic guitar and voice. Yet, it is bursting with all the energy of a live show. The songs explore how a little grit and a lot of love can get us through hard times.
